What is the New College Education System?
The New College Education System (NCES) is a college-level General Education Development (GED) program designed for working adults who were unable to earn a college degree through traditional means. Eligible candidates may receive an equivalent academic degree if they meet the Areas of Study requirements.
This degree can only be validated by institutions with a United States Department of Education NCES School ID Number or by accredited Professional Curriculum Evaluators from the International Center for Academic Evaluation & Accreditation (ICAE) or the American Council on Education (ACE).
Eligibility Categories
- Validated Homeschooling or Independent Study
- A combination of homeschooling or independent study with traditional schooling.
- Completion of 120+ Semester Units
- Applicants must have completed at least 120 semester units from multiple regionally and nationally accredited institutions but did not receive a degree due to a lack of campus residency or specific curriculum policies.
- Academic Credits + Work Experience
- Candidates who have completed 70% accredited academic coursework and 30% practical/apprenticeship or professional work experience may qualify through Course Evaluation & Assessment Examinations.
- Professional Work Experience Validation
- Individuals with three years of validated professional work experience may qualify, as this is considered equivalent to one year of full-time university academic credits.
- This degree is valid for employment and U.S. Immigration Visas under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and H1B Visas
- Limitations: This degree cannot be used as a prerequisite for enrolling in graduate or postgraduate degree programs.
Steps in Taking Course Evaluation & Assessment Examinations:
To effectively complete the course evaluation and assessment examinations, follow these steps:
- Submit the Long Form Application:
- Complete the application form thoroughly.
- Ensure all sections are filled out accurately.
- Include payment information on page 2 of the application.
- Prepare and Scan Required Documents:
- Gather all relevant certificates, diplomas, and transcripts of records from your highest educational attainment.
- Collect affidavits of work experience to support your application.
- Scan these documents and ensure they are clear and legible.
- Free Online Classes (If Required):
- Check if you are required to take any free online classes.
- Complete the necessary online classes as specified.
- Prepare for the online examinations conducted by University of California FCE, Inc. or ProctorU Online. Demonstration of ProctorU Online Examinations is shown in the website by clicking “Online Examinations – ProctorU” in the Free Online Classes Section.
- Submit Identification:
- Provide a photocopy of your passport or any government-issued ID.
- Ensure the copy is clear and all details are readable.
- Payment of Fees:
- Pay the following fees:
- Diploma Fee: $200.00
- Examination Fee: $350.00
- Note that you can retake the online examinations without any additional fees.
- Pay the following fees:
- Term Paper and Thesis/Dissertation (If Required):
- Determine if you need to write a term paper.
- Prepare the title, abstract, and table of contents for your thesis/dissertation.
- Thesis/Dissertation Defense:
- Schedule your thesis/dissertation defense online.
- Prepare a comprehensive presentation for the defense.
- Defend your thesis/dissertation before a panel of three, consisting of the Panel Chairman and two members.
